Today I am thinking of Resiliency! In these changing times, most of us are having to dig deep into our resiliency reserves. As with any precious resource, we need to keep them topped up and ensure they are balanced in order not to exhaust them (and ourselves).
What is in your resiliency basket? What tools are you using to help adapt and cope with the challenges you are facing?
Valuable resources include quality sleep, good food, social support, humour, creativity, communication, information, hope…and essential oils of course!
Let me introduce you to a classic example of Resiliency : this wild lavender. Until about 8 years ago, the lane outside our home was a dirt track. This was a joy to drive on as the lane was also home to all manner of wild aromatics which made driving home sweet and fragrant. But it was also tricky due to potholes and rocks. So the village decided to tarmac it.
You would think that would have put an end to the aromatics, right?
This wild Lavender lives right at the turn to our house. She found a way to overcome the tarmac, push through, thrive and bloom. It took her a couple of years to work it out, but now she is healthy, abundant and loving her new territory. I greet her every morning when the hounds and I set off for our hike.
A little further down the lane, there is a whole swathe of yarrow doing the same thing. And mountain savory. And melilot. And vervain…
Little by little nature is reclaiming her place in what could be regarded as inhospitable terrain.
In cancer care, aromatherapy is often used to help people adjust to and cope with their journey with disease, gently helping the person to navigate their way towards balance in hostile and stressful circumstances. The most commonly used essential oil in oncology settings is…Lavender! The inimitable oil of Resiliency
Today I invite you to be like Lavender. Have patience, seek the light even in the darkness, don’t give up, follow your heart and be sure to bless everyone with your sweet presence.
